Collins Urges Trump To Back Effort To Restore Health Subsidy

WASHINGTON (AP) — A key moderate Republican is urging President Donald Trump to back a bipartisan Senate effort to shield consumers from rising premiums after his abrupt decision to halt federal payments to insurers.
Sen. Susan Collins of Maine says Trump's move last week was "disruptive" and is an immediate threat to health care access.
Her comments on CNN and ABC reflected an increasing focus Sunday on the Senate effort to at least temporarily reinstate the payments to avoid immediate turmoil in the insurance market, even though Trump has signaled he wouldn't back a deal without getting something he wants in return.
The insurer payments will be stopped beginning this week. To recoup the lost money, carriers are likely to raise 2018 premiums for people buying their own health insurance policies.
